Contra
Konamis Contra er et af de mest populære videospil nogensinde. Spillet blev først udgivet i de japanske arkadehaller i 1987. Allerede året efter havde Contra taget verden med storm. Før Contra kunne spilles på Nintendo Entertainment System-konsollen (NES) i 1988, var det blandt de fem mest solgte arkadespil. Konami har efterfølgende udgivet en række populære efterfølgere til Contra. De har på verdensplan solgt over 4 millioner eksemplarer.
Spillets handling
Den originale japanske udgave af Contra foregår i året 2633 på de fiktive Galuga-øer nær New Zealand. Fjenderne er onde rumvæsener fra organisationen Red Falcon, som har dystre planer om at tilintetgøre menneskeheden. De to elitesoldater, Bill Rizer og Lance Bean fra millitærenheden Contra har fået til opgave at redde Jorden. Den amerikanske udgave af spillet foregår i spillets samtid, hvor spillere skal kæmpe sig gennem den barske regnskov i Amazonas i stedet for de fiktive Galuga-øer. De onde rumvæsener fra Red Falcon er dog fjenden i begge udgaver.
Konami’s Contra is one of the most popular video games of all-time. Originally released in 1986 for Japanese arcades, Contra became a global sensation by the end of 1987. It was one of the top five highest grossing arcade games before being ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988. Since its original release, Konami has gone on to produce a string of popular sequels to Contra that have sold over 4 million copies worldwide.
The Story
The original Japanese instalment of Contra is set in the distant future during the year 2633 on the fictional islands of Galuga near New Zealand. The villains are an evil alien organization known Red Falcon who have plans to destroy humankind. Bill Rizer and Lance Bean, two commandos from a special military unit named Contra, are tasked with the mission of saving the Earth. By contrast, the American version of the game is set in the present, and players fight their way through the Amazon jungle instead of Galuga. The evil alien organization Red Falcon remain the chief enemies of the game.
